The genuineness of this medal has been disputed on very insufficient grounds. It is engraved in Bonanni’s Numismata Pontificum (2 vols. fol. Romæ, 1689) tom. i. p. 336. It is No. 27 of the series of Gregory XIII. L’Estoile mentions it, under “Lundi, 30 juin, 1618,” as the “pièce que le pape Grégoire XIII. fit faire à Rome l’an 1572.”
