Note 132 — FIRST VISIT TO AMERICA.
Reading edition
Though the son of a Middlesex magistrate, Charles Delamotte was found to be almost penniless. Hence the following item in Whitefield's account of money received for the poor of Georgia:—"1738. May 27. Gave to Mr. Charles Delamotte, the catechist of Savannah, to pay his passage, etc., to England, £15." In a foot note, however, Whitefield states that this money was refunded by the Georgia trustees.
