Note 35 — Chapter I · RELATIONS BETWEEN JESUS AND JOHN THE BAPTIST.
George Eliot translation
Hæres, xxx. And when he came from the water, the heavens were opened, and he saw the holy spirit of God in the form of a dove, etc., and a voice was heard, etc., and immediately a great light illuminated the place; seeing which, John said to him, Who art thou, Lord? and again a voice, etc. And then, John falling at his feet, said to him, I beseech thee, Lord, baptize me. ↑
