The first wife of Sir Henry Willoughby, Sir Hugh’s father, was Margaret, daughter of Sir Robert Markham of Cotham. His third wife was Ellen, daughter of John Egerton of Winehill in Cheshire. Sir Henry had four wives. His effigy on the monument at Wollaton has two small wives on each side.
