The inequality of human races

Note 65 — Chapter XI · RACIAL DIFFERENCES ARE PERMANENT

Adrian Collins translation

We must make an exception in the case of Shakespeare, who is painting a picture of Italy. Thus in Romeo and Juliet Capulet says:

“My child is yet a stranger in the world,

She hath not seen the change of fourteen years;

Let two more summers wither in their pride

Ere we may think her ripe to be a bride.”

To which Paris answers:

“Younger than she are happy mothers made.”
