Note 15 — III
James S. (James Samuel) Van Teslaar translation
With his wonderful psychologic mastery Arthur Schnitzler has described such a pair in his best piece entitled, “Das weite Land.” Hofrichter, the manufacturer, who flutters from one love affair to another, and his wife, who consoles herself in the arms of a young Cadet, are the kind of a pair who love each other but go down in ruin rather than openly acknowledge their love.
