I derive the particulars of the Ashantee Expedition from the letters and journal of my son, Captain Cope; from three papers (‘The Rifle Brigade in the Ashantee Expedition’) in ‘Colburn’s United Service Journal,’ July-September, 1874; and from a detailed MS. Memoir on the Battle of Amoaful, kindly communicated to me by Major Robinson, Rifle Brigade, who has also favoured me with the plan.
