I am indebted to Marshal Canrobert for a copy of this order, which conferred so unusual and marked a distinction on the Regiment. In the letter which accompanied the transcript the Marshal expresses his appreciation of ‘la magnifique conduite du détachment de la Rifle Brigade commandé par le Capitaine Tryon.’
