The Annales Cambriæ has “Magnus filius Haraldi vastavit regionem Anglorum, auxiliante Grifino Rege Britonum.” The Brut gives him the strange description, “Magnus uab Heralt, brenhin Germania” which I do not understand. Was he Ælfgar’s Irish ally, defrauded of his pay? The entry the year before, about waiting at Chester, looks like it.
