There are a great many instances of discontinuous distribution among Oriental Invertebrates. Thus the Freshwater Crab (Thelphusa fluviatilis) occurs in Southern Italy, Greece, Turkey, Cyprus, and Asia Minor. Another crustacean—a Freshwater Crayfish—(Hemicaridina Desmaresti) inhabits Spain, Corsica, Sardinia, Sicily, and Asia Minor.
