The History of the Crusades (vol. 2 of 3)

Note 301 — BOOK XIII. (continued 2)

William Robson translation

The livre Tournois was so called from being coined at Tours, and was one-fifth less in value than the livre coined in Paris; thus afterwards the livre Tournois was valued at twenty sous, that of Paris at twenty-five. The sum mentioned would thus only amount to little more than £200 which appears almost impossible.—Trans.
