That Lynn was a mayor-town in the reign, or before the death of John, has been disputed by some; but the fact seems fully ascertained from the Patent rolls—that king’s letters patents, dated at Devizes, Wilts, June 7 (1216) in the 18th year of his reign, being addressed to the Mayor and good men of Lenn.
