Zelter was brought up as a builder. It may be interesting to mention, that Felix Mendelssohn was his pupil. Goethe speaks of ‘the incredible talent of Zelter’s most astonishing pupil.’ This was written when Mr. Mendelssohn was a child.—Translator.
