In the Second Book of the "Ethiopics," the author remarks on this peculiarity of the Buccaneers:—"βονκόλοι γὰρ ἅλλα τε πρὸς το φοβερώτερον φαίνεσθαι, καὶ δὴ καὶ τὴν κόμην εἰς ὀφρὺν ἕλκουσι καὶ σοβοῦσι τῶν ὥμων ἐπιβαίνουσαν."
