The Great Musicians

Note 48 — PURCELL. (continued 2)

Reading edition

The music was published by Walsh with the following new title, "Te Deum et Jubilate for voices and instruments perform'd before the Sons of the Clergy at the Cathedral Church of St. Paul. Composed by the late Mr. Henry Purcel." This led to a notion that the music had been composed for the "Sons of the Clergy" festival.
