Diodorus (I. 49) probably greatly exaggerated the value of the produce of the mines. See Uhlemann, Handbuch der gesammten aegyptischen Alterthumskunde, Zweiter Theil, Leipzig, 1857, pp. 148-151, where a very clear account, mainly derived from Diodorus, is given of the mining methods used by the ancients.
