Note 202 — Chapter II · THE CONTRIBUTION OF WESTERN CHRISTENDOM BEFORE 1100 A. D.

Reading edition

The unknown author most frequently cited is a Roman cosmographer of the name of Castorius. The citations, names, and extracts from Castorius correspond very closely to the legends on the Peutinger Table and have led Miller to the conclusion that the latter represents the work of Castorius. See Miller, Weltkarte des Castorius, 1888, pp. 36–47; the same, Mappaemundi, vol. vi, 1898, pp. 36–37; the same, Itin. rom., 1916, pp. xxvi-xxxvi.
