The geographical lore of the time of the Crusades

Note 4 — Chapter I · THE CONTRIBUTION OF THE ANCIENT WORLD

Reading edition

For a brief general outline of the main trend of Greek geography see Berger, Geschichte, 1903, Überblick, pp. 1–24. See also Bunbury, Ancient Geogr., 1879; Tozer, Ancient Geogr., 1897; Tillinghast, Geogr. Knowl., 1889. An extensive recent treatment of ancient geography has come to the attention of the writer as this book is going to press: Gisinger’s article “Geographie” in Paulys Real-Encyclopädie, 1924. This contains many references to secondary works; it is particularly valuable as a synthesis of recent German research in the field.
