Note 27 — Chapter I · THE CONTRIBUTION OF THE ANCIENT WORLD
Reading edition
Plato gives a formula from which it has been deduced that he believed the duration of the Great Year to be 760,000 terrestrial years. Aristotle explained that the figure could be found by determining the least common multiple of the periods of revolution of the various celestial bodies. Cicero calculated it at 12,954, and Macrobius at 15,000 years. See Duhem, op. cit., vol. i, pp. 84, 165, 283, 288.
