Note 63 — Chapter VI

Reading edition

The word laa’l appears to be a contraction of Laa-feaill ‘feast day.’ F is a weak consonant in Manx, and when aspirated it loses all its force. Phillips, in his Prayer book of the early seventeenth century, spells this word lail, which shows its origin more distinctly.
