Note 1071 — Chapter XVII
Reading edition
Tardieu, La Conf. d’Algés, pp. 90 ff., 503 f.; Radowitz to F. O., Jan. 17, 1906, G.P., XXI, 96, No. 6952. Tardieu’s book contains almost an official account of the Conference from the French side. He was present as representative of Le Temps and had access to the fullest information, as his articles showed. His book is an excellent example of patriotic historiography carried almost to a hysterical extreme, and his interpretations have to be read with the greatest caution. Dr. Hammann criticized the work when it appeared in 1907 in two articles, one in Grenzboten, 1907, p. 12, the other in the Kölnische Zeitung, March 30, 1907 (editor’s note, G.P., XXI, 92 f.).
