Lansdowne to Bertie, July 12, 1905, ibid., 118 f., No. 152. On June 28 Lowther reported a conversation with Tattenbach in which the latter gave him to understand that “what he [Tattenbach] desired the Conference should do, would be to bring about an amendment of the Anglo-French Convention of April 8th, 1904.” King Edward’s minute to this dispatch was, “In plain English—Germany ousts France fr[om] Morocco and puts herself in her place!” See Lowther to Lansdowne, D.
