The Elizabethan Stage, Vol. 2

Note 510 — BOOK III THE COMPANIES (continued 5)

Reading edition

The Life became 2 Cardinal Wolsey, as The Rising, although written later, was historically 1 Cardinal Wolsey. The entries are complicated. It is just possible that the playwrights were working on an old play, for the property-inventories of 1598 include an unexplained ‘Will Sommers sewtte’ (cf. p. 168). A ‘Wm Someres cotte’ was, however, bought for The Rising on 27 May 1602.
