Reading edition
Kelly, Progresses, 302, 319, 345, 360; Nichols, James, iii. 11; Wright, ii. 16; Howard, 211. A 'Remembrance for the Progress' of 1575 (Pepys MS. 179) contains elaborate notes for routes (not those ultimately followed) and mileage, for the provision of vehicles, for instructions to sheriffs about corn and hay, and justices about flesh, fish, and fowl, for the carriage of wine from London, and the brewing of beer locally. If the country ale doesn't please the Queen, a London supply must be provided, or a brewer taken down.
