Acts of the General Assembly of Georgia, p. 139. Note.—From 1810 to 1820 slaves increased in Georgia about 44,000, or 43 per cent. The illicit foreign traffic to this State was great during part of this time. Torrey says in 1817, that it was common for masters in Maryland, Delaware and District of Columbia to endeavor to reform bad slaves by threatening to sell them to Georgia.
