Note 186 — Chapter VIII · THE GENERAL SUPPRESSION: SECOND STAGE

Reading edition

Sleigh’s Leek, p. 64. “Cole’s MS., 26, 246, contains the Deposition of John Whitney, late Chamberleyne to the last Abbot of Dieulacresse, taken 8 Jany., 7o Elizh. Hereby it appeared that 4 or 5 days after the suppression of that Abbey, several Blanks, having the Covent-sealle, were seene by the Deponent, the Abbot and others being privy. Upon these blanks Wm. Damport, the Abbot’s Scribe, wrote Leases, with Ante-Dates: and among the rest one was the Lease and Reversion of the Mannour of Poultone.”
