M. de Pressensé means the deutero-canonical books of the Old Testament. Deutero-canonical and apocryphal are by no means synonymous. The authenticity of the deutero-canonical books has been demonstrated sufficiently often within three centuries to prevent a writer, with any respect for himself, from alluding to them as apocryphal.
