Reading edition
Dr. Evans (Bronze, p. 15) quotes Dr. Beck’s suggestion that the -eros of Sideros is a ‘form of the Aryan ais (conf. æs, æris). In another place (Stone, p. 5), he alludes to the possible connection of Sideros with ἀστὴρ (a meteor), the Latin Sidera, and the English Star.
