Note 456 — Chapter V · THE DIFFERENCING ELEMENTS OF COMMUNAL POETRY
Reading edition
The Armenian bride does the singing herself, combining incremental repetition with a refrain in which the crowd may join (Alishan, Armenian Popular Songs, Venice, 1852: the third edition, 1888, omits the name of the translator):
Little threshold, be thou not shaken;
It is for me to be shaken,
To bring lilies.
Little plank, be thou not stirred;
It is for me to be stirred,
To bring lilies.
