Note 19 — The Plantation of Ulster

Reading edition

MacNevin (Confiscation of Ulster, p. 137, note) says the Irish had to pay £10 13s. 4d. for 60 acres. He does not state how he gets at this fact. The grants to the natives seem to have been at the rate of £1 1s. 4d. for 100 acres, which would work out at £10 13s. 4d. for 1,000. (See Patent Rolls, James I., passim.)
