San Gregorio di Roma (Dialog. l. II c. 15) riferisce una predizione memorabile di San Benedetto. Roma a gentilibus non exterminabitur, sed tempestatibus, coruscis turbinibus ac terrae motu in semeptisa marcescet. Questa profezia, col testificare il fatto per cui e con cui è stata inventata, rientra nel dominio della Storia.
