Note 34 — VII. MASTAMHO
Reading edition
, [34a] Vannata is a root which is peeled and dried, roasted in the fire like vaδilye, mescal (Agave), and tastes sweet. It grows in the valleys, while the mescal grows in the mountains. The habitat and name suggest Yucca, Walapai menat, but the Walapai speak of cooking the fruit, not the root.
