Humboldt has fallen into an error in saying that Joachim Lelewel, in his Pisma pomniejsze geogr. historyczné, 1814, has recently called up fresh attention to this Polish pilot. The editor has examined the work carefully from beginning to end, and does not find the name even once mentioned, although the page to which reference is made contains allusions to early discoveries.
