Scottish Poetry of the Sixteenth Century

Note 584 — JOHN BELLENDEN.[578]

Reading edition

On the title page the translator is styled “Archdene of Murray and Chanon of Rosse,” and, as Irving points out, he was not in possession of these titles at the time of purchasing escheat in 1538. The date of 1536 sometimes assigned to this edition is probably therefore a mistake. Only two copies of the edition are now known to exist.
