Note 881 — Chapter IX · UNLUCKY DAYS

Reading edition

E. Seler, “The Mexican Chronology,” Bulletin of the Bureau of American Ethnology, no. 28, p. 16. The passage quoted above is from Seler’s translation of the Aztec text of Sahagun, which is more complete than the latter’s Spanish version (Historia general de las cosas de Nueva España, ii, 37; transl. Jourdanet and Siméon, Paris, 1880, pp. 50, 77, 164, 283, 291). Other Spanish authorities refer to the nemontemi as days when the people did nothing but receive and return visits (Clavigero, Storia antica del Messico, vi, 24; Acosta, Historia de las Indias, vi, 2).
