There is a Talmudic story which tells how Moses, having arranged with Pharaoh for a day of rest to be observed by the Hebrews in Egypt, was asked what day he thought most suitable for the purpose. Moses answered, “The seventh day, sacred to Saturn; work done upon this day never prospers” (Jeremias, The Old Testament in the Light of the Ancient East, i, 202; Delitzsch, Babel and Bible, p. 102).
