Note 739 — Chapter VII · THE BABYLONIAN “EVIL DAYS” AND THE SHABATTUM

Reading edition

The text (K. 2164 + 2195 + 3510) has been edited with a translation and commentary by E. Weidener, “Zur babylonischen Astronomie,” Babyloniaca, 1911, vi, 8 sqq. It should be observed that it belongs to the same series as the text (K. 170) in which the fifteenth day is expressly described as the day of full moon (above, p. 229). Professor A. H. Sayce has published a table of lunar longitudes (K. 490) which shows how many degrees the moon advances during the first fifteen days of the month and how many degrees it retrogrades during the second half of the month (Zeitschrift für Assyriologie, 1887, ii, 337-340).
