Note 674 — Chapter VI · LUNAR CALENDARS AND THE WEEK
Reading edition
The reverse order, beginning with the Moon and ending with Saturn, is attributed to Pythagoras by Pliny the Elder (Historia naturalis, ii, 22) and by Censorinus (De die natali, xiii, 3); and according to Macrobius it was adopted by Archimedes in the third century B.C. (Commentarium in somnium Scipionis, i, 19, 2, ii, 3, 13). But the statements of these late writers on the subject may be safely disregarded.
