Note 325 — Chapter IV · MARKET DAYS
Reading edition
A. von Humboldt, op. cit., i, 340, ii, 227; Brühl, op. cit., p. 239; compare p. 326, where a market every fourth day is stated to have been held in Turmequé. In Sorotoca the market took place every eighth day (ibid.). But authentic details concerning the Chibcha calendar are not to be had. According to von Humboldt (op. cit., ii, 244) ten of the Muysca “weeks” formed a lunation called suna. The suna began, not at new moon, but at full moon.
