Some observers use ambiguous language, when referring to the length—four, five, six days, etc.—of market weeks. Throughout this chapter I have regularly translated by “every fifth day” such expressions as “tous les cinq jours,” “de cinq en cinq jours,” “alle fünf Tage,” “einmal in fünf Tagen,” and “einmaal in de vijf dagen.”
