Reading edition
The Murik on the Baram River, a community of hardworking farmers, in addition to the communal taboos observed by them at sowing, also keep a lemalli of seven days, when the paddy crop is about to be harvested. “For the first three days of this no one stirs out of the house, no work is done, and no sexual intercourse is allowed” (R. S. Douglas, in Sarawak Museum Journal, 1911, i, 146 sqq.).
