John Martin, An Account of the Natives of the Tonga Islands ... from the Extensive Communications of Mr. William Mariner, Boston, 1820, pp. 381-385. Mariner passed four years among the Tonga Islanders as the adopted son of the king Finow. His picturesque, but apparently reliable, narrative describes the natives in their aboriginal state before the arrival of Christian missionaries.
