Note 108a — Chapter VIII · THE ARCHÆOLOGY OF THE NEIGHBOURHOOD.
Reading edition
The conserving properties of the mud ooze is remarkable. The “Philosophical Transactions” mention a human body dug up in the Isle of Axholme, of great antiquity, judging by the structure of the sandals on its feet, yet the skin was soft and pliable, like doe-skin leather, and the hair remained upon it.-—“Lincs. N. & Q.” Vol. III., p. 197.
