Reading edition
The Sapcotes were a well-to-do middle-class family. In 1554 Thomas Chamberlaine, clerk, was presented to the Church of Lee, Lincoln Diocese, by Edward Sapcote, gentleman, one of the executors of the will of Henry Sapcote, late alderman of the City of Lincoln (‘Lincoln Institutions,’ “Linc. N. and Q,” v., p. 173.) William Sapcote was Rector of Belchford in 1558. By a Chancery Inquisition post mortem, dated at Hornecastell, 4 Nov., 23 Henry VII. (1507), the manor of Taunton (Toynton) and advowson of Nether Taunton with other property were recovered for Thomas Sapcote, and Joan his wife, and other parties. (“Architect. S. Journal,” 1895, pp. 61–2.)
