Reading edition
The bird ἴϋγξ, supposed to be the wry-neck Iynx torquilla, bound on a wheel was a frequent love-charm. It is like the Siren (p. 201) a bird-soul, an enchanted maiden with the power to lure souls. Such enchanters, half-human, half-bird, were also the Keledones, cf. Athen. VII. In metaphorical language Siren and Iynx are equivalents, cf. Xen. Mem. III. 11. 18; and cf. Diog. Laert.
