For the vases known as Loutrophoroi see Milchhoeffer, A. Mitt. V. 1880, p. 174, and P. Wolters, A. Mitt. XVI. 1891, p. 371, and ib. XVIII. 1893, p. 66. These vases were sometimes pierced at the bottom but it is not certain that the pierced vases were placed only on the graves of the unmarried.
