A more personal and picaresque satirist was D. Thomas de Noronha (†1651), whose works were collected by Dr. Mendes dos Remedios in his Subsidios, vol. ii: Poesias Ineditas de D. Thomás de Noronha (Coimbra, 1899). The satiric poem Os Ratos da Inquisição by Antonio Serrão de Castro (1610-85) was first published by Castello Branco in 1883.
