Note 105 — Chapter III · THE POETRY AND MYTHOLOGY OF THE TABLETS.
Reading edition
“Ye men of Ephesus, what man is there that knoweth not how that the city of the Ephesians is a worshipper of the great goddess Diana, and of the image which fell down from Jupiter?”Jupiter?” (Acts xix, 35.) This question of the town clerk is strangely illustrated by an inscription found by Chandler near the aqueduct at Ephesus, which states that “It is notorious that not only among the Ephesians, but also everywhere among the Greek nations, temples are consecrated to her,” etc.
