James Greive translation
χοινίκιον. This was the name of a measure among the Greeks, and from its resemblance in shape, they have probably used the same word for this chirurgical instrument; for the same reason, I suppose the Romans have named it modiolus. Though I have chosen to retain our author’s term, yet the reader will see the difference is not material betwixt that, and the trepan of our surgeons; the terebra comes so near to the perforator, that I have used the modern term for it.
