Note 25 — SOURCES OF ROMAN HISTORY. (continued 2)
Havilland Le Mesurier Chepmell translation
This account, which is to be found in M. Seneca, Excerpt. Controv. 1, IV., does not apply to the emperor Caius (Caligula), but to the son of M. Agrippa, whom Augustus had adopted. It is stated in Seneca, mortuo in Syria, C. Cæsare, which can only be said of the latter. Asinius Pollio died in the year 5 A.D. (Hieron. in Euseb. Chron. ad a. MMXX,) and could not at any rate have known Livy’s work complete.
